Southern Pines United Methodist Church is a praying church!  God the Father expressed a desire to see God's house become a house of prayer for all nations (Isaiah 56:7).  Jesus also emphasized the same desire for the church (Mark 11:17).  Even the disciples recognized that prayer and the ministry of the Word were the early church's chief areas of focus (Acts 6:4).  Prayer is communicating with God, who invites us into an intimate relationship.  At SPUMC, prayer is a prominent component of our worship services, our meetings, and our fellowship together.

National Day of Prayer

We currently have two Upper Room prayer groups that meet regularly to pray for God's kingdom purposes, crying out to God for revival and spiritual awakening.  These small groups come together for one hour each week specifically to seek God's face and will and purposes for God's church, this nation, and our world--these groups' prayers are kingdom-focused.  These groups meet Mondays at noon in the Sanctuary and Tuesdays at 6:30pm in the Hiatt Parlor.

The purpose of the Upper Room prayer time is:

-To devote ourselves to prayer, to God's kingdom purposes

-To seek God for guidance about how to be a House of Prayer

-To ask for a powerful manifestation of Jesus and the Holy Spirit in our lives and our church

These groups have been meeting since July, 2014, with the desire to see our church become a House of Prayer.

Intercessory Prayer:

The needs  of church members, attenders, and others are prayed for during a session of intercessory prayer that starts on Tuesdays at 11:15 am in the Hiatt Parlor.  You will find many of the folks' names for whom prayers are prayed listed in our weekly bulletin.  If you, or someone you know, would like to be prayed for during this time, please do not hesitate to contact the SPUMC office.

Other Prayer Opportunities:

There are other prayer opportunities at SPUMC.  For 2015, our pastors have extended an at-home challenge to join in 180 Seconds of Extraordinary Prayer each week at Saturday's sunset or Sunday's sunrise--praying for the anointing of God to come upon our pastors as they preach God's Word and the anointing of God's power to come upon our church services!  Anyone can do this!  Church-wide prayer opportunities are being offered as well, like the National Day of Prayer gathered here at SPUMC in May, 2015.  Our prayers are working together to unleash the power of God to do a mighty work of the Holy Spirit in our church and in churches around this nation!  Won't you join us?
