​Children and Youth Summer Camps

The NC United Methodist Camp & Retreat Ministries run three camps in North Carolina; Camp Rockfish, Camp Don Lee, and Camp Chestnut Ridge. Programs include family and mini-camps throughout the year and great summer camps creating memorable experiences.  Summer camps include day camp, mini sessions, and week-long resident and adventure camps.  Early spring begins the registration process and is now all online.  You can pay your deposit during your online registration or pay by check.  You will also have the opportunity to set up a payment plan before camp begins.  Please contact the camp directly to work out a payment plan.

Art, Architecture, & Math Camps

The camp fun continues with the continued expansion of the ZOE Camps at SoPines UMC. Since 2014 these camps help support the ZOE Empowers mission sponsoring scholarships, mission travels, and the church's Zimbabwe ZOE group. The camps are for ages 8+ from 9a-3p daily (lunch included) with extended time available for purchase with the exception of the DaVinci DOT camp that is designed for ages 5+. Options for younger campers include 1/2 with no lunch or director approval need for CATAN & Imagination.

DaVinci DOT (June 15-18)

Recommended for age 5+ for the morning sessions only and 7+ for all day.

Art: Study the shapes & patterns of nature in the work of Leonardo DaVinci, Michelangelo, Claude Monet, & Vincent Van Gogh. Make Egg Tempra Paint, use watercolors, or acrylics to make your own masterpiece. Renaissance and Impressionism comparisons will be explored.  Math/Science: Use the basic laws of physics & general mathematics known in the 1500’s to create a working catapult, a flying machine, & a parachute. The work of Friedrich Froebel (gifts & occupations) will be intertwined. Architecture:  Build a Renaissance village with guild workshops, markets for merchants, & domed churches using legos with other manipulatives.

Architecture Studio July 6-7

Minimum age 8, full-day only, limited space.

Think, design, build, rethink, redesign, rebuild! Students will use the Lego Architecture Studio Set & Arc kit to create solutions for realistic architecture challenges. The studio provides collaboration opportunities, constructive feedback, and a take-home set for future architects. No tech required.

SoPines UMC Children's Ministry & Music Calendar

CATAN (June 8-9)

​​Build the island of Catan, learn about geology and the resources used by the Settlers of Catan, and play the game on the student-created gameboard. Participants will be able to take home their own version of the CATAN Settlers game. Recommended age is 8+ or maturity for game strategy & teamwork if younger.

Imagination (June 10-11)

Multiple resources & building materials will be available to build marble mazes, Rube Goldberg projects, or perhaps a dream world. Daily challenges & games will provide inspiration. Creativity is key. Recommended age is 8+ or maturity for extended independent work if younger.
