Rev. sandy kim
Associate Pastor
Min Jae (Sandy) Kim moved from Seoul, South Korea to Durham, North Carolina 21 years ago and has been in NC ever since. For her undergraduate, she attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (Go Heels!) where she graduated with a degree in Biology. She recently received her Master of Divinity from Duke Divinity School.
When she is not buried in books, working, or daydreaming with a cup of coffee in hand, you can find her exploring new places, taking hikes with her Australian Shepherd named Bruce, and eating good food. She loves to trying new things and can often be persuaded with tasty food and coffee.
Sandy is very excited and looking forward to joining Southern Pines UMC and experiencing God moving amongst his people. Schedule a virtual meeting for coffee and a chat with Pastor Sandy.

Your littlest ones, from newborn through five years, are invited to our nursery during our Sunday worship services (8:45 AM - 12:30 PM) and special services or programs.
Our nursery offers safe, nurturing, age-appropriate play and instruction. Children and families will be greeted by our friendly, experienced, and professional staff who love children. In an effort to help you feel at ease when you leave your child with our staff, families will receive a pager that will buzz if you are needed to return to your child.
Also, parents are encouraged to sign up to be part of our nursery volunteer rotation.
SPUMC offers two worship experiences. The first one is a Praise and Worship Service at 8:30am in the Sanctuary. This is an informal service which blends contemporary and traditional styles of worship. The praise band, which leads music, is an integral part of the service. Liturgy, song lyrics, and primary passages of Scripture are integrated into an audio/visual display during the worship service. The 11:00 service is a traditional experience of worship. It, too, is in the Sanctuary of SPUMC and features a chancel choir which leads our music during the service. This service is more liturgical in nature, and hymns feature prominently in this service of worship. As children are valued at SPUMC, a children's sermon is part of each service, and with the exception of communion Sundays, children have the option of taking part in Kids Own Worship which begins after the children's sermon. Nursery is offered each Sunday beginning at 8:15 through the end of the 11:00 worship service. Communion is served once a month at both of the services.

Charles (Chae) and his wife, Whitney, came to live in Southern Pines to join the ministry of SPUMC from Benson, NC in 2012. Chae is from Bennett, NC, and Whitney is from Robbins, NC. Both Chae and Whitney graduated from North Moore High School in 2005. Chae received his Bachelor of Arts in History from UNC at Chapel Hill in December 2008. In the fall of 2009, he started at Duke Divinity School, where he received his Masters of Divinity in May of 2012 (but please do not call this Tar Heel a Blue Devil). His wife, Whitney, is a Physician’s Assistant in Pinehurst, NC.
Charles has enjoyed taking part in the ministries, either as an intern or staff member, at Pleasant Union UMC in Liberty, NC and Cokesbury UMC in Stedman, NC. Charles has also had experience as a chaplain intern through Wake Med. Both he and Whitney are excited about taking part in the mission and ministry of SPUMC as SPUMC continues to reach out and make disciples of Jesus Christ.
COVD-19 has brought about a lot of change to our day to day lives. SoPines UMC, our church, has taken every adjustment with stride while continuing to adhere to the Governor's and Bishop Ward's guidance.
One significant and exciting change is the transition to bring worship directly into your home, and you can find all that you need right here!
Multiple resources & building materials will be available to build marble mazes, Rube Goldberg projects, or perhaps a dream world. Daily challenges & games will provide inspiration. Creativity is key. Recommended age is 8+ or maturity for extended independent work if younger.

SoPines UMC normally offers two worship experiences on Sunday morning at 9:00 AM and 11:15 AM in the sanctuary. The early service is a Contemporary Service led by the Praise Band. The use of an audio/visual display during the worship service integrates Liturgy, song lyrics, and relevant passages of Scripture.
The 11:15 service is a traditional experience of worship featuring a chancel choir. The service is more liturgical than the Contemporary Service, and the signing of hymns feature prominently in this service of worship.
SoPines UMC values faith at an early age and a children's sermon is part of each almost every service except for communion Sundays (the first Sunday of each month in both Sunday worship services). Children also have the option of taking part in Kids Own Worship (KOW) which begins after the children's sermon.
Nursery services are available each Sunday beginning at 8:45 AM through the end of the 12:30 PM.
Please join us in worship at either service when in-person gathers return! You are also encouraged to check out Sunday School (for children, youth, and adults) which starts at 10:15 AM.
A Holy Communion service is available most Tuesdays of the year at Noon in the Wesley Chapel located downstairs. The service is 30-minutes that included a devotion, singing, prayer, and the receiving of Holy Communion. If you would like more information about this service, please contact the church office.
Please take a moment to look at the pictures of the nursery space. Though pictures will not allow you to fully experience the space, it will give you an idea about the facility if you choose to use the nursery. If you would like to see the nursery for yourself before using it on a Sunday morning or otherwise, a church staff person will be more than happy to show you at a time that is convenient for you.
SPUMC seeks to continually improve each of its ministries, including the nursery ministry. We invite your comments and suggestions that will help us do so. Please use the adjacent form to share with us your comments, suggestions, or questions. You can expect a response within 24 to 72 hours from a SPUMC staff person if a response is needed. We hope to serve you and your child soon.

SPUMC offers many different opportunities to connect with other disciples, with our worship offerings constituting one of those ways. We believe that connecting with other disciples and being intentional about living as part of a community helps folks become better disciples of Jesus Christ. If you are new to SPUMC and/or to this website and would like to learn more about ways to get connected, you are encouraged to consult the "Groups" tab above. Once you have done so, contact one of the ministers about how you can connect with others. They can help you find one or multiple places to plug in.

The Southern Pines United Methodist Church considers outreach and missions to be a vital part of our ministry. Mission is central to John Wesley's theology of Acts of Piety and Acts of Mercy. Acts of Piety include worshipping, praying, reading and studying the Bible. Acts of Mercy include reaching out to others with compassion and striving towards justice for all people.
The Outreach Committee strives to make this a better world for our brothers and sisters in need. We carry out our mission through soliciting donations and by recruiting volunteers for opportunities for service both locally and globally.
We are always looking for new ideas and persons to expand our outreach. We'd love for you to join us! For further information, contact the church office.
Here is a list of just some of the missions SPUMC currently supports:
We are sponsoring 96 orphans in Zimbabwe
96 orphans and vulnerable children in 43 child-led families (View list of names)
Please pray for the members of the Happy Hearts and Success Working Groups as they journey out of poverty to self-sufficiency.

Whether we are serving our next door neighbor or the stranger on the street, each act of service is meaningful. SPUMC is a community that takes to heart the task of service. We want to serve one another. We want to serve others. If you are looking for a place to serve, please join us. United Methodist Women
The organized unit of United Methodist Women shall be a community of women whose purpose is to know God and to experience freedom as whole persons through Jesus Christ; to develop a creative, supportive fellowship; and to expand concepts of mission through participation in the global ministries of the church. As a member of the Southern Pines United Methodist Church, each woman is automatically a member of UMW. While many women serve in a variety of functions within the church, each one is invited and encouraged to also become active in one of its Circles.
Susannah Wesley Circle
Circle members meet at the church in the Ezra classroom on the third Monday of the month at 7:00 pm. A devotional begins the meeting, followed by a business meeting offering opportunities to participate in fundraisers for local and district missions served with refreshments. Projects include our famous Chili Luncheon, supporting the Peru Mission by collecting needed items, delivering the Daily Bread devotional to area nursing facilities, soup and cake sales, Angel Tree family adoption, providing snacks for Vacation Bible School, and volunteering to help in the church when needs arise. Co-leaders Mikey Delle and Shirley Shank welcome you to attend a meeting and share Christian fellowship among women. For more information about the Susannah Wesley Circle, contact
Elaine Questell.

Important information about an upcoming study will be in the weekly uConnect insert.
The 8:30 service is a "blended service". Our aim is to blend elements of traditional and contemporary worship, as we invite our congregation and all members of our community to offer new expressions of praise, prayer and music in worship to God.
The 11:00 service is a traditional service. Our aim is to worship the Living God by participating in the historic expressions of the church's liturgy and music. This service stands in the stream of the robust Wesleyan tradition. Please join us in worship at either service!Sunday School (all ages) 9:45 a.m.Holy Communion is offered the first Sunday of each month at both services, and every Tuesday at noon in the Wesley Chapel.
